Thought I would send a picture of my just
finished bike. It started as a 1973 Z50. I got a set of MR50 forks off ebay
for $45 and made my own triple clamps, bar risers, kick stand and brake
pedal, all out of billet. The emblem on the tank is from a 1970-71 Z50. The
rims are 10 inch and the swing arm is extended 4 inches. I am still waiting
for a Kitaco 4 inch over swingarm from classic honda but they are very slow.
The motor, which I built myself has a Trailbikes 88cc Big bore/race head and
manual clutch and the original 1973 bottom end, high volume oil pump ect.
the exhaust and tail section are also from classic honda as well as the
shift pedal. The exhaust's baffle is very restrictive so I had to pull it
and add a little extra flow. The paint is house of color blue flake over
black which my father-in-law did for free. Just thought I would add my bike
to your awsome website! thanks, Barry. |

Hi again Jeff. You already have my bike on your Z page, but
I thought people might be interested in this. It's no fun parking it in the
winter, so I thought studding it might be the way to go. The proper way is to
stud from the inside out (yes, it sucks and you WILL get bloody hands), but
the results are sweeeet. Pavement like traction and being able to wheelie out
of corners is pretty cool.
Self tapping 3/4 inch sheet metal screws work just fine for
these little bikes. No need to spend the big $ on the ones for snowmobiles.
You also MUST install a liner in the tire before mounting for obvious reasons.
Use foam pipe insulation cut into 2 inch strips, then glue them into place (3M
Spray Adhesive is the best).
Buying another set of rims off of ebay is the way to go (got
a pair of rims with tires, tubes and hubs for $50). Mount them up as usual,
use about 15-17psi of air and away you go, knocking your buddies into the snow
banks. Have been using mine for about a month with no problems.

1979 honda z50, original frame/tank, metal flake black/red
power coat, troy lee designs flame graphic, 88cc oversized engine, 4-sp man
clutch, chrome fenders, 20mm carb, red aluminum fuel filter + more

The pictures speak for themselves, but if you want to know:
Nickel plated frame, forks, and wheels
88cc motor with race head and oversize valves. Fully ported.
Race cam
3 1/2" over swingarm
Aftermarket xr80 shocks
1" over black anodized fork legs
8" snow-blower tires
vented valve kit
oversize pegs, and peg mount
Manual clutch
3 oz lightend flywheel
Big Gun exhaust system
16/33 gearing
Runs on VP race fuel just for the smell
I won't bore you with every nut and bolt, but there is tons of other cool
things that the trained eye will pick up on also. Over the winter real oil
filled forks will be put on along with a disc brake. Thanks for posting the
cool old school Z50's. Every one else seems to have forgotten about them.
How could we ever forget about
them?

Here's my 72 z 50. Many years under

motor by Jeff at Mini Gunz: 88cc, race head and cam, oil pump, 4 speed,
manual clutch, carb, and pipe. It ripps! Thanks Jeff Tuttobene at mini
gunz. Quality work, reasonable price.

The shredder tires are available at any
motorcycle dealer that has a Parts Unlimited ATV catalog {cheaper and no
freight} !! The best tire that we have found is used on snowthrowers, it is
called the Snow Hog. You can get the tire at small engine repair shops, just
have them look in their tire books. The Snow Hogs should be available for about
30.00 each.
|
Hello
you said that these snowthrower tires
would cost about $30 a piece- thats way to much to be paying i have the
same tire for much cheaper. $18 per tire for z50 tires.

I asked Lewis to give me the history, very
interesting. email Lewis at

if you have questions for him.
Ok, here goes,
The bike started out as a 1980 Honda z50r, I bought it 5 years ago at a
garage sale for around $90, the bike was a wreck and didn't run. Ever since
then its been an on going project. I totally stripped the
bike and wanted to rebuild it as a 88-97 model, being a fabricator/machinist
I had to weld a few more brackets on the frame and move some etc to allow
for the different tank seat etc, after that was done I sent the frame, forks
and swing arm off for powder coating, totally stripped the engine and
completely rebuilt it with new, including a 88cc kit with full manual
clutch, basically every part in the engine I bought new. I pretty much threw
everything else away!
When I got the frame back I assembled the fork assembly which is all new
apart from the top outer part and swing arm with all new bearings etc. Then
came the wheels, I bought some kitaco anodised black rims and new hubs which
were painted gold, complete with new tubes and aftermarket chunkier tyres.
Then went on some heavy duty rear shocks and a fast 50's
bar/clamp and throttle kit to give me a rolling chassis. Then on went the
new tank, rear cowling and seat (all new of course!) Along with the front
mudgaurd and number plate.
Then came the good part, mounting the engine into the frame, (88cc, 18mm
carb, high performance cam, oil pump, 4 speed gearbox (1 down, 3 up), full
manual clutch). Then the bike was basically finished! EVERY SINGLE nut and
bolt is brand new on the bike. It also has many trick parts such as tappet
cover breather pipe, fast 50s pipe, cam cover, billet head cover, skid
plate, honda gripper seat cover, xr50 fork gaurds, Honda cr250 feet pegs,
uni filter, the list goes on and is never going to end!! The whole bike is
new except the engine case, frame, swingarm and top part of the forks, this
bike is faultless, I must have about $6000 invested into this bike! It is
also very quick, quicker than most 90cc xr50s!
Future things to happen on this bike include a box section ally swing arm
mono-shock conversion along with some Sano bombshells!!
Wow, incredible!! |
