Fug's 2007 Winter Project
Well, it starts out, your buddy gets a 50cc motorcycle for playing around on.
You see how much fun he has on it so you go out and buy a 50cc motorcycle for
yourself. Soon, you build a track, so you can "race each
other." Next thing you know, your buddy shows up with an aftermarket exhaust and
suddenly you find yourself lagging behind.
Turn the page forward 4 years and here is my new project. My buddy goes out and
gets himself a new 2007 Polini XP4T
110cc. So, I go out and buy a used stock
2003 KLX110 to combat with.

Of course, its winter time here in Wisconsin, so no better time than the present
to tweak the new ride up. As you can see in the picture
here, the stockers are no slobs on a
pitbike track and for the most part with a decent rider they can haul the mail
just fine. But just fine doesn't cut it where we ride.
My main objective to this bike was suspension and handling. I feel a good
handling pitbike is just as important as hopped up motor in one. After much
research, I decided on Marzocchi Front Works Suspension with Sano +4 swingarm
and the new F-22 Ishock. This shock is adjustable just like a big
bike and initial feel of it is awesome. The Marzocchi front end comes in a box
disassembled, but it all goes together pretty well. The big thing that you want
to do is take the stock head tube bearing and play marbles with them. Punch the
races out and put in tapered steering bearings and you will be much happier.

The New Sano swingarm set up is also pretty easy to set up. Everything pretty
much lined up and bolted right on. To compliment the controls, I went with XR50
Pro Tapers and Scott grips. Because the one track we have has lots of jumps, I
also added a MetalTek Heavy Duty Footpeg Mount and wide pegs, which give the
bike a real solid feeling along with a Two Brothers Tall seat. I like this seat,
because it actually is taller than most seats and is the firmest.
Next on my agenda was to install a CHP manual clutch. This is pretty hot item
right now as it took a couple weeks to actually get my hands on one. Again,
another fine product with great instructions and all went together like peanut
butter and jelly. One tip I did learn is to clean out the clutch cover as there
are some burrs inside that can make the clutch notchy and also make metal in the
motor. I used a dremel to smooth things out and some compressed air to clean it
all out. Clutch is nice and smooth and with this kit the loss of about 2 pounds
off the crank. This will help motorwise.

The motor is going to be outfitted with a new Sano exhaust that not only fits
nice, looks simple and clean, but sounds nasty. Nasty in a good way that is. By
now, you are probably wondering if I stuck a 138 or 143 kit in. Well, I'm not
going to for two reasons right now.
1. I hate cleaning air filters. I will sacrifice all the hp in the world if I
can just ride. I hate cleaning air filters and with big bore kits it seems that
I'm constantly cleaning carbs and filters. "I just wanna ride" Sound familiar?
2. The second reason is, my buddy has a Polini 110cc and we want to compare it
to a pretty much stock 110 motor to see how it performs. Not to mention, alot of
my buddies will be on stock 110's come spring so it is more fun when all have
the same motor. As the spring unfolds, we will keep you posted on any add on's
and the comparison tests.
